La raccolta di Carte de Visite italiane è piuttosto frammentaria, poiché le acquisizioni non sono state programmate ma sono avvenute in modo casuale, a volte con acquisti in blocchi di materiali eterogenei. Rimane comunque un interessante spaccato di una realtà complessa e variegata diffusa su tutto il territorio nazionale (anche prima che diventasse nazionale...)
Alcuni esemplari hanno particolarità che li caratterizzano, come ad esempio quelli prodotti da fotoamatori, o i ritratti post-mortem. Più raramente venivano stampate in questo formato scorci di paesaggi, monumenti e vedute delle città. Ancora più difficile trovare soggetti etnografici come quello rappresentato nella fotografia a sinistra. Questa sezione della Fototeca conta circa un paio di centinaia di esemplari che, come detto, sono in fase di catalogazione.

The collection of Italian Carte de Visite is rather fragmented, since the acquisitions were not scheduled but occurred randomly, sometimes with purchases in blocks of heterogeneous materials. However, it remains an interesting cross-section of a complex and varied reality spread throughout the national territory (even before it became national ...).
Some specimens have particularities that characterize them, such as those produced by photo amateurs, or post-mortem portraits. More rarely, glimpses of landscapes, monuments and city views were printed in this format. Even more difficult to find ethnographic subjects such as the one represented in the photograph on the left.
This section of the Fototeca has about a hundred specimens which, as mentioned, are being cataloged.
