E.Lauro, a mysterious photographer

We know nothing or almost nothing about this photographer. The origin is certainly Neapolitan, some trace of the name is found in publications such as a photo album of Pompeii (see bibliography at the bottom). In Naples there is a trace of a certain Errico Lauro, with a studio in via Nardones 8 in Toledo, but we do not know if he is our man. We know from some studio photos, CdV and cabinet, that opened an atelier in Cairo, in Rue Kamel Ezbékieh, près l'Agence Thos Cook & son. In addition to portrait photographs, Lauro also produced a number of albumen prints of landscapes, monuments and genre scenes; the quality of the photographs is high, the choice of subjects is interesting. There is no known catalog of his photographs, apart from a provisional list drawn up in the context of the research of the photo library. One activity we know something about is the printing of postcards, of which Lauro was publisher and, perhaps, seller. The photographs from which the postal cards are taken are certainly his, as can be seen from the figure below, which show an albumen print (n ° 19 Chameau et chamelier) and the related postcard next to it. What we know about him, for now, is only this, but the search continues!

In the sequence on the left some examples of his albumin present in the collection. On the page there is also a cabinet-sized photograph, an example of postal cards and alongside some examples of original captions on the plate and others written in pencil on the reverse of the print.
